Lindsay Roberts
Senior Vice President, Owned Assets, Strategic Events, Meetings & Incentives, Dallas office
1. What do you do at MCI?
I’m the SVP of Owned Assets in SEM&I. Our team currently oversees four events in the cannabis, quantum, and telecom spaces. Our events take place in both Canada and the US. In addition, we are working to relaunch an event brand that has been sunset since the pandemic. The Owned Assets group is designed to have equity stake or full ownership of the events we produce. Owned Assets is a newer group within MCI. We are in an exciting phase our building our team, launching new events, and relaunching existing events.
2. What was your industry experience prior to coming to MCI?
I have spent my entire professional career in the B2B trade show industry. I recently spent the last 21 years at Informa Markets, the largest trade show organization in the world. Over my tenure, I oversaw Registration & Housing, Mergers & Acquisitions, and served as an Event Director for events that qualified for the Top 150 tradeshows in the United States including the Greenbuild Int’l Conference & Expo, Int’l Roofing Expo, JLC LIVE, Int’l Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, ArchitectureBoston Expo, and ISSA Show North America.
3. What attracted you to MCI?
Through my previous event industry experience, I knew that MCI was both a global and reputable company. I was fascinated with the breadth of MCI’s work. Many companies working on our space have a singular focus, and I was blown away to discover that MCI did it all: association management, event management contracts (full scale and partial), registration and housing, owned events, incentives, marketing, consulting, etc. The list of services extensive and very diverse.
I was also fortunate enough to work with Shawn Pierce and Informa and always felt strongly our professional paths would cross again when the time was right. Residing in Dallas, I also found the idea of having a physical office location to call home. I had also seen trusted industry professionals move to MCI over the years, and they always spoke very highly of their experience and company culture.
I’ve loved my experience so far. The work is fast paced and rewarding, and after spending 21 years at the same company I feel like I’m learning so many new things and new ways of doing business. Everyone has been so friendly and supportive. The company culture is exactly what I was looking for. I feel the benefits of working for a large, global company while maintaining the positives of a smaller business within our unit of SEM&I. The company is entrepreneurial, allowing autonomy while providing needed support.
4. What are some things your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m obsessed with music. I’m not a fan of TV. I’m from a small town in Southwest Missouri. I put myself through college and worked full time while going to school. I’m a vegetarian.
5. What are you looking forward to in your life?
The next chapter of my professional life. I joined my last company while I was still in college, and I’m just so excited to dig into this new experience. I’m fascinated and challenged by the new spaces I’m working in (Cannabis, Quantum, Telecom). And super excited about upcoming personal trips to Austin City Limits Music Festival in October and Bora Bora in December.
