Association Solutions client Special Libraries Association (SLA) held its annual Leadership Symposium in its own back yard – at the McLean Hilton, next door to MCI’s offices – over the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend. More than 100 volunteer leaders from the United States, Canada, and Europe attended the symposium, taking inspiration from Dr. King’s admonition that “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a molder of consensus.” The first day was focused on leadership development through a change management lens. Attendees collaborated on teamwork-building projects and took the DiSC Personal Profile System, an assessment tool that analyzes behavioral characteristics across four different personality dimensions: dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness. The second day of the Symposium was devoted to helping attendees better understand their leadership roles in SLA and how to use SLA resources to communicate, recruit members, partner with industry partners, and more.
