Through our colleagues from MCI Australia, an opportunity for support services for pandemic protocols has presented itself. As the cruise industry is looking to return to sail after being halted for over seven months, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), cruise lines and governments are coming together to find the safest solutions to “return to sail” during a pandemic, with protocols in place in case of COVID-19 outbreaks on board.
We are engaged (not yet married) with an organization, Aspen Medical, to be part of the logistical response team across the globe for debarkation and quarantine procedures. Aspen Medical has named their program CruiseSAFE.
There will be three PMOs (Project Management Offices): Americas, AsiaPAC and EMEA. MCI’s role in each of these regions will be to secure lodging for passenger quarantine of 14 days, support with flight coordination, transportation and “boots on the ground” for execution. All of this managed through the Cvent platform, which will interact with multiple apps / systems through entire eco-system.
In the US, they are looking initially at 17 home ports + ports of call in Central America & Caribbean.
Discussions are in progress with Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Disney – with many more in the pipeline. The exciting part is that shipping cargo lines and oil rigs are also enquiring for support services – as well as non-CLIA members of smaller cruise lines are seeking support.
This will be a global, cross-functional opportunity – that will definitely take a tribe to support!
