Christine Baxley

Accounts Receivable Manager, Baltimore Office

1. What do you do at MCI?

As the accounts receivable manager, I oversee collections and credit issues, and I help with contract reviews. I’ve been working here almost 13 years.

2. What do you like best about your job?

The camaraderie with my department is unlike any other place I’ve ever worked. We work so well together, there’s never any conflict, and we always pick up where someone else left off or needs help. It’s a wonderful environment and we have a great boss. We also are lucky to have a lot of flexibility, we’re always able to put family first and not have to make sacrifices.

3. What’s been the hardest thing about working through the pandemic?

For me, the biggest thing is not being able to walk down the hall and ask someone a question. I prefer the instant gratification that comes with that, rather than having to chat with someone and wait for them to respond.

4. What do you miss most about “normal” life?

My son graduated this year, so we missed graduation and his senior year of playing lacrosse. I was very involved with his school and it all ended very abruptly.

Beyond that, I miss regular social interaction. I still have some friends that won’t go out or go to restaurants, so I have friends we haven’t seen in a while. My husband also travels for his job, so he’s on planes a lot and we’ve had to take a lot of extra precautions with everything.

5. What do like to do in your free time?

I’m very crafty. I decorate cakes. I used to do it full-time but now I just do it for family and friends. I’m always the social butterfly. I get my coworkers or friends together and plan parties and give or make gifts for each season. At the beginning of the pandemic I made a socially-distanced visit to each of my coworkers’ homes with a gift for their kids.
