Moriah Meeks
Digital Marketing Specialist, Chicago Office
1. When did you start at MCI and what do you do?
I started here in August as a digital marketing specialist. I do email marketing, social media posting, update websites, some graphic design, and handle any other digital marketing needs for my clients.
2. What has your experience been like?
MCI has been really great so far. It’s been a strange transition from my previous job at a small personal injury law firm to working from home with a big company where so many people are spread out across the U.S. and the globe. I feel like I’m still meeting new people all the time, which is great because we work with so many awesome people. It’s exciting to be a part of a larger team. We have more resources to learn from each other and share ideas.
3. How have you been able to build relationships while everyone is fully remote?
I was at the holiday party at the Chicago office, so it was fun to meet people in person, finally. Most of the time on calls, it’s all about work with maybe a few small chats on the side, so it was nice to be able to talk face-to-face. It’s been somewhat of a challenge to get to know people on a personal level over Teams, but everyone here has been really nice and friendly.
I’m a very social person – normally I participate in recreational sports leagues to stay active and meet new people outside of work – so it’s hard not to be able to see my colleagues in person. But on the other hand, we’re all stuck inside again right now, so there’s not much going on for anyone at the moment to talk about! Hopefully we will have more opportunities to socialize with one another this year.
4. What are you looking forward to in 2022?
I’m hoping that I’ll have more opportunity for professional development now that I’m settled into my role and my clients. I’m looking forward to approaching client requests more strategically and focusing on long-term solutions to any problems that arise.
Personally, I really hope that I get a chance to start traveling again. In 2021 I was able to go camping in the summer, and I took a trip to Death Valley and Zion National Parks with my family over the holidays which was amazing. However, I really miss visiting new countries. I’ve been to eleven so far, and I hope that I’ll be able to add to that list again soon.
5. What is something that your coworkers would be surprised to learn about you?
I came really close to being a professional musician! For a long time, I played the saxophone and actually started out in college in music school. There was a lot of pressure, so I ultimately decided it was not for me, but some of my favorite memories happened while I was in band or performing. I have no regrets on where I’ve ended up!
