Sophia Longmire

Coordinator, Association Solutions, Chicago Office

1. What do you do at MCI?

I’m an account coordinator for the Association of Women Surgeons and the Giving Institute where I do customer service, member inquiries, and anything membership related.

2. Why do you like working at MCI?

One of the things I love is the flexibility and the amount of growth potential that this job offers me. I like working from home when I feel like it and being able to go into the office when I feel like it. Everyone I work with has shown an interest in developing my personal and professional skills. I also really like working with cause-based clients. I feel like it is so much more rewarding to do the work when you believe in the mission of the organization.

3. What did you do before you worked here?

Before MCI I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Cambodia! I joined right out of college and taught fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade English there. I was evacuated because of the pandemic, but I’m hoping to go back at some point and see my host family and friends. I loved living there, but I also hope I get to go live in and explore other places around the world one day.

4. What is something your coworkers would be surprised to learn?

Something I don’t talk about much at work that is that I volunteer with Amnesty International. I help with membership, fundraising, and events. I’m really passionate about their mission, and I love that I can use some of the skills I have gained at MCI outside of work.

5. Do you have any fun summer plans?

Every Fourth of July my family does a huge camping trip to Mount Shasta in California. It’s a week-long trip and we have a “no cell phones” rule. It’s a tradition my family has been doing since my mom was a kid and now with extended family and friends, we have like 50 people that attend. I love it!
