“If it moves or makes a noise when you touch it, leave it alone—don’t pick it up. Everything else is fair game.”

Armed with these instructions, a dozen MCI USA talents donned orange safety vests and gloves and headed out of the McLean office building to Westpark Drive, a half-block away. Pairing off in teams of two, we walked along the sidewalks looking for used coffee cups and soda cans, weathered pieces of paper, cigarette butts, plastic bags, and other types of litter. After 45 minutes, enough trash had been collected to fill about one-and-a-half bags—more than twice the haul of the previous clean-up event in May 2021.

The McLean office participates in Virginia’s Adopt-A-Highway program, under which we agree to pick up litter along a half-mile stretch of Westpark Drive. After the event, we gathered for a group photo around the Adopt-A-Highway sign recognizing our involvement, then walked back to the office building for a picnic lunch on the lawn.

MCI USA’s involvement in the Adopt-A-Highway Program dates back to Dream Day 2017 and has now become part of our corporate identity. Thanks all MCI USA staff in the McLean office who have participated in the trash pick-ups
