Association Solutions client SES – The Society for Standards Professionals held its first in-person event since 2019 on August 3-5, 2022, in Charleston, SC. The diverse group of attendees at the SES 71st Annual Conference experienced a reimagined schedule with concurrent sessions (their first time ever), a plethora of opportunities to reconnect, and reengaged with members and standards and conformity assessment professionals.
This SES Conference also included a half-day Cultural Competencies workshop where attendees examined their own biases and dove deep into how to create standards that are more culturally neutral and relevant for all involved.
Additionally, UL Standards and Engagement signed the United Nations Declaration on Gender Equality for Standards Development at the conference, a large step for the organization.
During the conference, President Biden signed the CHIPS+Science Act which includes the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) for the Future Act, which authorizes $9.68 billion over five years, including $2.23 billion for the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership and $829 million for the Manufacturing USA program. The act authorizes and expands NIST’s research in greenhouse gas measurements, AI, cybersecurity and privacy, quantum, advanced communications and more. The act also codifies NIST’s role as a convener and federal coordinator in international standards setting.
