5 Questions with Ashley Slauter
Manager, Association Solutions
1. What is your role here at MCI?
I’m a manager for Association Solutions, currently working on the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) and the International Live Events Association (ILEA). I’ve been here about 15 months, since I came over from another association management company and I love it here! I manage a lot of day-to-day operations and am also on the front lines of implementing more long-term strategy for my clients.
2. Why do you like working at MCI?
I like that there is such a wealth of knowledge about so many different industries and systems. If you ever don’t know how to do something, someone else on your team or in another department knows something or can give you a launching point. When I’m looking for an answer, I run to Google less and Teams more.
3. What drew you into the association world initially?
I was really involved in several associations in college, so I was always very aware of what they are. I have always followed the NFL Players Association and been interested in how it impacts football in so many ways that most people don’t hear about. So, after college, an association management recruiter reached out to me, and since I was already a fan of associations, I took them up on their offer and am still in the industry seven years later!
4. As an NFL fan, what football team do you root for?
Right now, I would probably reluctantly say that since The Rams are not in St. Louis anymore (where I live), I root for the Lions because I love Dan Campbell and their exciting young offense.
5. Do you volunteer anywhere in your spare time?
My husband and I are very involved in animal rescue organizations. We volunteer at St. Louis Stray Rescue with event planning and also at The Gentle Barn, which is a sanctuary for farm animals outside of the city.
We just adopted a Pitbull-mix puppy from the rescue. He’s into everything right now and is a total mess, but he’s so cute and we love him so much! His name is Hubble like the telescope. He has a black patch that looks like a full moon and because my husband and I are dorks and watch the Hubble Telescope feed a lot, it felt fitting and his middle name is Aerospace Engineer!
