After graduating college last year, Fiona Brueckman knew she wanted to do something that was business oriented but allowed her to be creative, making her current role as a marketing coordinator on the Creative Services team a perfect fit. Here, Fiona talks about her career path and goals, the challenges she is tackling, and the bonds she shares with her family, specifically her twin brother.
- How have you been able to grow in your career since you started at MCI USA? This being my first role after college, I have learned something new every day. I have developed both soft skills and hard skills, including using WordPress and devising marketing strategies. When I started this role, I quickly learned the ins and outs of email marketing, which is something I did not have much experience in previously, but my managers were always available to guide me in the right direction and give me valuable feedback. I am lucky to have a great team who teaches me new things every week and helps me succeed.
- What are the biggest challenges you have faced in this role? One challenge I face is prioritizing my work since I currently work with five clients — my schedule can get busy! To navigate this challenge, I have learned to work ahead whenever possible, so I can manage requests as they come in. Some days it can be a real challenge, but I enjoy organizing my schedule and working through my to-do list.
- What is your ultimate career goal? My ultimate career goal changes a lot, but overall, I want to excel in any role I am in and deliver positive outcomes to my clients. Eventually, I aspire to take on a leadership role where I can mentor and inspire a team. My nearest goal is to move to Chicago and work in the hustle and bustle of the city.
- As a twin, what is your bond like with your sibling? My twin brother, Joseph, and I are very close. We went to school together from preschool all the way through college, and we even enrolled in the same business school. Our high school calculus teacher used to joke we had telepathy because we got the same scores on tests, which we still think is pretty funny. I also have an older sister, Lily, and she’s getting married next year, and I can’t wait to be her maid of honor!
- Do you have any summer vacation plans? I’m going to New York City for the 4th of July to visit my best friend, Reilly, who lives there, and we’re going to explore the city and go to a Broadway show. Then the following week, we have our creative team retreat in the Baltimore office, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in person for the first time. I also have some college friends in Washington, D.C., so I’m going there afterward to visit with them.
