Anisha Sabu

Staff Accountant, SEM&I, Dallas Office

1. Can you tell us more about your role and day-to-day functions?
I was brought in as the staff accountant to manage the owned-assets shows. Currently, I am managing the accounting for the events for the National Cannabis Industry Association and American Nurses Association. My responsibilities include monitoring the bank account, managing the A2Z system, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.

2. What is your biggest motivator?
My mother. She grew-up in a family of eight that lost all their possessions in a tragic event. Even with no electricity, borrowed schoolbooks, hand-me-down clothes, she became the valedictorian at her school and has a double master’s degree. She led by the example that regardless of the roadblocks and limitations, you can succeed in everything that you put your heart into.

3. What would people be surprised to know about you?
I know ten languages. I lived in Bangalore, India until I was 14, so I know English, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi. I took two years of French in high school (which means I do not remember much). In college, I took Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and ASL.

4. What is your favorite thing to do outside of the office?
Although my MBA is in Accounting, my bachelors was in Theology. So, I am a huge Bible nerd, and I love to geek out every weekend with the class I teach at church. Naturally, my dream vacation has been to go on an archeological dig in the Ancient Near East; but for now, my three-year-old and I have our own “excavations” in our backyard…mostly rocks and toys.
