During the month of April, the Sales Solutions & Services team collected food to donate to Baltimore Hunger Project (BHP), a local nonprofit organization working to support food insecure Baltimore-area elementary school students. Canned tuna and chicken, protein and granola bars, juice boxes, and more were all delivered to BHP to help fill the food gap that too many children fall into every weekend. Studies show that a child who goes hungry from the end of the school day on Friday until breakfast at school on Monday, it can take up to Wednesday to have the nutrition they need to begin learning again.
In addition to the food drive, on April 21, eleven talents and one honorary talent spent a couple hours at BHP’s Timonium location packing food bags for Baltimore children to take home for the weekend. The volunteer team also stuffed snack bags with notes of encouragement. This is always a great event. Not only does the team work hard, they also catch up with colleagues they have not seen in a while, they laugh, and have friendly competition well. The assembly line is fast, efficient, and fun!
Sharing an excerpt from the thank you email from BHP, “Each zip-locked bundle you filled didn’t just contain weekend food for an at-risk child; it contained a sense of security, comfort, and relief for that child and his or her family. And it contained hope that they can get through even the most difficult circumstances. Food insecurity remains a vast challenge. As you sit down for your next meal, take a moment to imagine not knowing where, when, or what your next meal will be. That’s currently the reality for 7 in 10 Baltimore City students and nearly half of all Baltimore County students.”
The Baltimore team has supported BHP for several years and plans to be back in the fall. Thank you to all who donated food and/or your time! Special shout out to Angela Fiorini who drove all the way from Virginia to help support BHP.
