Updates from the MCI USA Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

To honor Black History Month, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee recognized and celebrated the many contributions that African Americans have made to the history and the foundation of American society. We shared information on various African American inventors/inventions that we still use today to make our lives easier. We discussed the impact of the African American experience through music, film and written works.

We identified how within our industry and connections to clients and partners, we share a collective appreciation for African American culture. This was showcased from our conversations with Elaine Richardson of NBMBAA, a long term SEM&I client and Kevin O’Reggio of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, an MCI USA top tier partner. We also spotlighted two of our own talents, Rhea Beal, SVP of Finance and LaTrika Peoples, Housing Manager. They shared their personal reflections on what Black History Month means to them. We enjoyed the engagement with each of you who participated in the conversations, the quizzes, and the sharing of information.

February also provided us the opportunity to observe other holidays and observances. For instance, we learned about the Lunar New Year and its importance in Asian culture. We were invited to recognize Japan’s celebration of Setsubun-Sai as the beginning of Spring and celebrated as part of their Spring Festival.

Moving into March, we will be celebrating the many contributions that women have made and are still making during Women’s History Month. We will engage with you on how far women have come and how far they still must go. March also brings the recognition of Holi and Passover, and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

We look forward in you joining us in our discussions and information sharing.
