On the afternoon of September 4th, the buzzing of electric drills and the lingering scent of cedar wood kicked off a day of building dreams for MCI Washington’s 2019 Dream Day. Our mission was simple: MCI USA talents will build and donate two outdoor playhouses to Virginia’s Loudoun Habitat for Humanity. Loudoun Habitat will use those playhouses to advance their mission – either in their ReStore or to gift to their Habitat families. We couldn’t let those deserving families down, so anyone with past knowledge of building Ikea furniture was put to good use. We rolled up our sleeves and “power-tooled” our way to completion in record time.
To wrap up our build, we had the amazing opportunity to meet Kari Murphy, Director of Resource Development at Loudoun’s Habitat for Humanity. Kari shared some stories about the families with which they work, and our team couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude to call a place home. We are all very blessed and fortunate to be in the position where we can give back, even if that’s just by donating a little of our time.
“We do more than place roofs over heads, we strive to build homes, communities and hope.” – Kari Murphy
This year’s project for Loudoun Habitat perfectly aligned with the core mission of MCI USA in creating dreams and building community. In the process of contributing to dreams for others, the hope is that those involved reflect on their own dreams and aspirations.
To continue the day, our group literally went out swinging! Fuelled by food and drinks, we enjoyed a little friendly competition at our host venue, Top Golf – Loudoun.
In addition to our Dream Day festivities, our talents participated in a trash clean-up along Westpark Drive as part of an existing partnership through the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program. Our adopted stretch of land is adjacent to our McLean office and contributes to keeping our local community trash free. We are honored to now have a sign that proudly displays MCI USA’s continued commitment to the community since we adopted Westpark Drive for Dream Day 2017.
