5 Questions with Alli Smith
Housing Manager, SEM&I

1. What is a housing manager?

I manage hotel reservations for clients: setting it up, managing inventory, getting attendees and exhibitors booked, making sure we have enough rooms to sell, and doing reporting for our clients.

I have been in the hospitality industry for seven years, and with MCI USA since December.

2. What is your favorite part of your job?

I get to work with so many types of people, and there’s always lots of problem solving, and plenty of interaction with clients and attendees, so it keeps me busy and challenged daily. Working at MCI has been great so far – the people and the culture have been wonderful. Everyone understands the importance of work/life balance and works hard to get things done in a timely manner so we can enjoy that balance.

3. What do you like to do in your free time?

I’m an active person, so I like to stay busy. My boyfriend and I like to travel, so we’re usually on the road a lot.  This summer we are going to Lake Havasu in Arizona and to Chicago to visit family and escape the Dallas heat! I like to be outside as much as possible, including playing pickleball on the weekend and playing with my dog, Reese. I also really love to go to live sporting events and concerts!

4. Who are your favorite sports teams?

I’m a Chicago Girl (Go Cubs!) and an LSU girl – Geaux Tigers!

5. Where is the coolest place you have traveled?

We did a Europe trip last year, and my favorite place we want was Zermatt in Switzerland. We took a train from Geneva and did some skiing. However, because the elevation was so high and it was so windy, I was falling more than skiing, so I decided to relax and enjoy a nice bottle of wine instead and look out at the beautiful views. It was March, but it still felt like a Christmassy wonderland!
