Katrine Long
Director, Finance, Systems & Solutions, MCI USA, McLean Office
1. What has your job progression been like at MCI USA?
I’ve been working here for about seven years and have done a bit of everything. I started with the operations team focusing on the AM&C side and eventually moved on to doing financial accounting for AM&C/BFA. As MCI USA grew and opened more offices, I’ve worked across the different divisions to streamline financial systems and processes. Currently, you can call me the “SAP Queen” as I’m working to align all our US offices under one financial/systems banner.
2. What’s your favorite part about working here?
As much as this may surprise some folks, it’s definitely the people. I love that we get to work with so many different personalities, skillsets and strengths across the country. Everyone has a unique perspective, and it is very interesting to be a part of that.
3. What would we find you doing out of the office?
More often than not you’ll find me watching sports with a beer in hand. I love all of the D.C. teams equally despite the constant heartache that comes with it.
4. Do you have any pets?
I have a dog named Stewart. He’s a very spastic lab mix who always looks a bit terrified. We like to say he’s fancy because his mix of black and white fur make him look like he’s wearing a tuxedo.
5. What would your colleagues be surprised to know about you?
I have dual citizenship with Ireland. Ended up finding out when I was in the process of interviewing for a job as I was graduating from college. Apparently, my dad thought it would be a nice surprise, which it was when I was denied my security clearance due to fears of me being an IRA sleeper agent! Ireland will probably always be my favorite place to travel.
