Mitch Ramey

Account Director, Black Flower Agency

1. What do you do?
I work with the Black Flower Agency team to make our events and experiences come to life. My main client is American Express – specifically the premium consumer card division (Centurion and Platinum Cards). I’m responsible for curating once-in-a-lifetime experiences in the fashion, automotive, and luxury lifestyle (film, entertainment, wellness, art) verticals for those consumers. I also work with other clients like Chanel and Saint Laurent on the PR guest hospitality logistics surrounding their fashion shows.

2. How long have you been part of the Black Flower team?
I’ve been with the company since June 2011 (a bit more than 7 years). It’s been amazing to see how we’ve grown from two people in the D.C. office, to a couple of years later moving to a New York office, and then with growth under MCI, expanding it to Miami.

3. What doesn’t the average person know about events?
They’re not glamourous. It’s grueling work – from late nights or early mornings, to random things that no one wants to do (i.e., scraping gum off of carpets, hauling bags of trash, etc.) – but we do it because it needs to be done so that in the end, the event looks good. Another thing people don’t know is that it can take a while for something to come to fruition – we might be trying to work on an event with a partner for a year or two before it’s solidified. It takes patience and tenacity to get the experience to come to life, but it is rewarding when it happens.

4. How do you dream up these events?
We’re lucky. With most clients, we can try to concept things we think people would be interested in. We’re given a lot of flexibility with Amex to dictate who we should partner with and what we would want to do – like an international driving trip, various fashion experiences, or partnering with something art-related.

5. What is the coolest event you’ve worked on?
It’s hard to pick just one! The most recent event that I worked on was a Milan Fashion Week experience with Versace. We toured the haute couture Atelier, had a reception with Donatella in Gianni’s former apartment, went to their ready-to-wear factory and viewed dresses from the archive collection, and ended the week with front row seats at the Spring/Summer 2019 collection show. It was an incredible trip for our Card Members filled with moments they couldn’t get on their own. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about for me – knowing we are helping curate these memories for everyone.
