Becca Mitchell

Director of Housing Operations, Dallas Office

1. Can you tell us more about your role at MCI and what your department does specifically?
The account housing team manages conventions/conferences of all sizes. From set up, inventory management, daily maintenance, marketing, pre-cons, cut offs, and post shows. My team managed 12 shows in 2018 equaling 194,746 room nights, working with 302 hotels in 9 different cities.

2. What are some insider tips on making the most out of your hotel stays?
Always join the hotels reward programs. Whether you are a frequent traveler or just travel occasionally, all hotel programs have something to offer everyone who is a member. You do not have to be elite status to get some of the perks.

3. Could you tell us one thing your colleagues would be surprised to know about you?
Not sure it is a surprise, but I come from a large family with five kids. From the oldest to the youngest there is a six-year difference. I am not sure how my mom did it nor did I ever want to find out (I stopped at two kids). But I can say growing up with siblings that close in age was a blast and you definitely never found yourself lonely or looking for someone to play with.

4. What was the best meal you’ve ever had and where was it?
Maybe not the best meal as in expensive or gourmet, but the most nostalgic and the ones that come to mind first. It wasn’t one but many, my family’s Sunday dinners as I was growing up. My dad was a southern boy through and through and did the cooking in our house. Although we were raised in the city, you just couldn’t take the country out of my dad. Sunday dinners were always made from a trip to the farmers market where we would return home with bushels of corn, okra, beans, peas, tomatoes, etc. The five of us kids would sit there shucking the corn, snapping the beans and shelling the peas as he and my mom would prepare the dinner. Of course, he would more often than not put his famous fried chicken with it. At the time, especially as teenagers, we would sometimes resent this Sunday ritual, as in our minds we had better things to do, like hanging with friends and getting in trouble. What I would give now to have just one more of those dinners.
