AM&C client the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) is a patient advocacy group dedicated to promoting advocacy, awareness, education and research for Interstitial Cystitis (IC); a chronic bladder pain disease that affects up to 12 million men and women in the US with no cure and very limited treatment options. In many cases, these patients suffer in silence without much support from family, friends, colleagues and even healthcare providers.
With a focus on both patient needs and organizational goals, the ICA team recently launched the “Walk for an IC Cure” awareness walk program. This program helped raise over $16k in its debut Walk at Balboa Park in San Diego and represents a new revenue stream for ICA. It was also cherished and celebrated by IC patients as a new chapter in the march toward awareness, better treatments and a cure. As ICA worked these last few months to promote this inaugural Awareness Walk, they have been contacted by patients and healthcare providers across the nation, and even in Canada, volunteering to host Awareness Walk fundraisers in their localities.
