As a senior accountant at MCI USA, Mila Kush oversees the details that help keep the numbers accurate and the operations running smoothly. Based in Prosper, Texas, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, she manages general ledger accounting functions, payroll posting, daily banking operations and more, while also supporting colleagues as a mentor and resource.

With more than seven years at MCI, Mila reflects on the path that led her into accounting, the tools that keep her organized and the lessons learned from adapting to change. She also shares what she finds most rewarding in her role and how she spends her time outside of work.

1. How did you get started in your profession?
When I was 18 and just out of high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do in the future. However, my late father suggested studying finance, and I took his advice. I went to university to study financial accounting and never looked back.

2. What’s the most rewarding part about your role at MCI USA?
I enjoy assisting people, whether it’s helping staff members with accounting or answering their system questions. Seeing their gratitude brings me great joy.

3. What’s a tool, system or process that’s been a game-changer for your work?
My best friends are my calendar and notes. They help me plan and follow up on everything. Recently, Copilot has become my second-best friend. It’s an amazing tool, and I learn something new every day — real game-changer!

4. What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
On a personal note, my children are now grown up and building their own paths. Professionally, I consider myself a survivor in many respects. Over the past seven years at MCI, I have worked under four different managers, each with their own distinct personalities and traits. I have been fortunate to learn from each of them, always maintaining a positive outlook.

5. What are you currently watching or reading?
My husband likes to watch action series, and I’ve been enjoying watching with him, shows like Netflix’s “Animal Kingdom” and “Countdown” on Amazon Prime. I am reading mostly fiction drama books from authors like Sidney Sheldon, Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel. Right now, I am reading “Inheritance” by Nora Roberts. It takes you on the spin of unpredictable.
