Medical Library Association (MLA), hosted their 119th Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, May 3-8, 2019. The meeting was held in Chicago, the home of MLA headquarters. Over the course of six days, MLA offered 16 continuing education courses, 1 symposium, 50 lightning talks, 23 immersion sessions, 103 contributed papers, nearly 200 posters and featured 9 speakers. More than 1,000 attendees had access to over 100 exhibitors and were able to build professional and personal relationships at the “Hottest Ticket in Town” networking event. With the direction, leadership, and efforts of 16 MCI USA staff members, the meeting ran smoothly and was well received.

This year’s meeting theme focused on elevating members through education. Attendees were offered practice areas in clinical support, information management, professionalism and leadership, education, information services, and more. During the meeting, MLA addressed critical issues concerning diversity, evolving roles in healthcare, shifting technological and economic models of the health information industry, and the reorganization of chapters and sections into caucuses.

MCI USA began managing the Medical Library Association at the beginning of this year. Its membership, comprised of medical librarians and other health information professionals, fulfil a critical healthcare role by helping caregivers use the best quality information when delivering care to their patients. MLA promotes a deep and nuanced understanding of current issues in life sciences, information technology, healthcare economics, and consumer health.
