Every year, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the U.S. It’s a time to recognize how much these communities have shaped our country.
This celebration started in 1968 as a week-long event and was expanded to a full month in 1988. The dates were chosen to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Mexico and Chile.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a chance to dive into the rich histories and cultures that make our communities unique. Whether through festivals, art or food, there are many ways to join the celebration.
Let’s take the opportunity to learn more about the histories, cultures and stories that shape our communities. Below are just a few of the many Hispanic Heritage Month events taking place around the country.
