COVID-19 has severely impacted the entire live event space, and the Cannabis Business Summit and Expo was not excluded. Originally planned for July 2020 and then rescheduled to October 2020, the Owned Assets team was faced with canceling the live event and in a short amount of time, pivoted by launching a virtual event, Cannabis Business Cyber Summit and Expo.

The Cannabis Business Cyber Summit took place on November 10 – 12 with access granted to all participants for a total of 30 days. The launching of the Cyber event was the product of outstanding work and the combined efforts of MCI team members outside of the core Owned Assets team. Over 1100 participants of Cyber were presented with over 55 sessions and 150 speakers, a virtual exhibit hall with 30 exhibiting sponsors, and an investor conference. Cyber participants were also able to take interactive virtual tours of cannabis labs, farms, cooking demonstrations and even unwind with yoga. Highlights of Cyber include Keynote presentations by Grammy award-winning artist, Carlos Santana, 2020 Presidential candidate and author, Andrew Yang, along with a post-election recap by Aaron Smith, CEO of NCIA.

The Cannabis Team is enthusiastically working towards getting back to live events with the return of the Cannabis Business Summit and Expo, August 3 – 5, 2021, in San Francisco and the Midwest Cannabis Business Conference, August 25 – 26, 2021, in Detroit. Despite COVID’s impact, the Cannabis Industry continues to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14% (CAGR). With the recent 2020 elections, the industry is continuing its legalization expansion with five additional states approving cannabis sales of medicinal and/or adult use. The new administration heightens expectations for ultimate victory for the cannabis industry and thus, our cannabis events are poised to have a bright future and outlook.
