Sustainability Champions Spotlight: Community Service
The holidays are equal parts chaos and kindness. You see the worst parking habits on Earth, and the best instincts in people, sometimes in the same hour. Most of us already give, volunteer or help in our own quiet ways. You probably know exactly where you can make a difference. December is simply a good excuse to lean into it. Whether that means spending a few hours helping a local group, dropping off food or finding another way to pitch in, it all counts. And if it happens to help your tax return too, that is just efficient kindness.
Ways to Engage
Community service is about helping. It is the choice to spend time making someone else’s day a little easier, brighter or better. It does not have to be big or complicated; small efforts often have the most real impact.
- Volunteer with a local nonprofit.
- Organize a team donation drive.
- Drop off food or essentials to a shelter.
Share Your Story: If your team is organizing something, let us know! We’d love to highlight a few stories in January and show how much good happens when people step up.
Also, this month: Human Rights Day (Dec. 10)
Dec. 10 marks Human Rights Day. It is a reminder that “doing good” is not only about donating or volunteering. It can also mean choosing to buy thoughtfully, support fair labor or simply stay curious about where things come from.
For MCI Group, this is not just talk. Respect for people, fair labor, safe workplaces and ethical sourcing are part of how we operate. Our group policy outlines these commitments in detail, including zero tolerance for forced or child labor and clear expectations for our suppliers. You can read more here: MCI Group Human Rights Policy.
If you are interested in how the idea of universal rights was first written into global agreement, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a quick, worthwhile read.
