This month, we are focusing on our DEI&B pillar, which is an essential part of our culture. We strive to create a safe, inclusive and accepting environment where everyone can thrive. Let’s all help to foster a culture of belonging, where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
Disability Pride
Disability Pride Month, observed every July, honors the history, achievements and identities of people with disabilities. It’s a time to celebrate diversity, challenge stigma, and promote accessibility and equity.
Types of Disabilities
Disabilities can be visible or invisible, and may include:
- Physical – Mobility impairments, chronic pain, limb differences
- Sensory – Vision or hearing loss, sensory processing disorders
- Cognitive – Learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities
- Mental health – Anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder
- Neurodivergent – Autism, ADHD, dyslexia
- Chronic illnesses – Diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, long COVID
How We Can All Be More Inclusive
- Use inclusive language. Avoid assumptions and ask about preferences.
- Ensure accessibility. Check that digital and physical spaces are usable by all.
- Listen and learn. Center the voices of people with disabilities and respect lived experiences.
- Speak up. Advocate for accommodations and challenge ableism when you see it.
- Celebrate differences. Recognize disability as a natural part of human diversity.
Let’s work together to create a culture where everyone feels empowered, respected and included.
