1. Describe what you do in your job.

I am the senior manager of professional development with NCSEA, so I help with all their education, planning, webtalks, conferences, online communities and manage different committees within the organization. I’ve been with NCSEA for about two years, and MCI USA for two and a half.

2. What is the best part for you about working at MCI USA?

I was a stay-at-home mom for a few years, so I appreciated MCI giving me the opportunity to ease my way back into the workforce and the flexibility they’ve always given me. I’ve found the whole atmosphere to be very accepting, people are genuinely willing to listen to your ideas and let you try new things.

3. As someone who normally works from home a few days a week, what’s your best tip for those of us who are doing this for the first time?

Try and keep a routine. For me, I found I need to get showered and drink my coffee and get settled before I start. Then, I turn my computer completely off at the end of the day and don’t go back to it until the next morning. When I’m working, I’m working, and when I’m home, I’m home.

4. Are there any bright spots for you during the quarantine period?

It’s really forced me and my family to slow down. We kept a frantic pace for so long. I have a teenage son and my husband has a crazy work schedule, so this is something that’s forced us all to pause. We get to spend time and enjoy each other and actually sit down to dinner together. We play games, watch movies, and take walks which is something we don’t get the opportunity to do together very often.

We’ve also spent more time connecting with friends and extended family more, by checking in on them and having virtual chats over Zoom. It makes you take stock of what’s really important and who is important to you.

5. What are you most looking forward to after the quarantine ends?

Getting a pedicure and a haircut! Plus, I have a big birthday coming up, and while the celebratory trip was cancelled, I am instead looking forward to going out to a very nice meal and celebrating life with friends.
