Kelly Quinly
Finance Director, Association Solutions

1. What do you do for MCI?

I am the Finance Director for Association Solutions, on the back-office side. I help produce financial statements, and I also assist with monthly cash/P&L forecasts, profitability analysis, budgets, and some ad-hoc projects. I’ve been with MCI for four and a half years, and the company is constantly changing and growing, which is one of the things that I love about it. There is never a dull moment!

2. You have a unique living situation, tell me about that.

I moved out of my apartment in June 2021 and have been living in Airbnbs and hotels around the country ever since. I heard about some people doing that when a lot of companies switched to fully remote work and I just decided that it was the right time for me to do it too!

I haven’t had a plan this whole time. I don’t know where I’m going next or how long I will be doing this, but it’s worked out so well that I’m still doing it over a year later! Right now, I’m in Denver, but so far, I’ve been to 20 states and 50 cities across the US. My goal is to eventually travel to all 50 states!

3. What’s your favorite place that you’ve been able to live?

I have to say Denver, because I’ve been here for two months, and I’ve been able to explore here a lot. The people I’ve met have been super nice, and I’ve really enjoyed being close to so many hiking trails, breweries, and live music.

That being said, I don’t think there has been a place that I haven’t liked. Every place has been unique, and it’s been a great learning experience.

4. What would your advice be for someone who wants to do something similar?

I would highly recommend doing it!  My advice would be even if you can only go for a month or a couple of weeks, it’s so worth it (in my opinion). In most places, monthly rentals will come with everything you need to make you feel at home, but it’s been very helpful to read the reviews and search areas online. I’ve been travelling alone for the most part and there are so many resources online that you can use to help you feel safe while travelling. I also recommend trying Airbnb Experiences (where you can find activities hosted by locals) & Travel Stories (where you can listen to self-guided audio tours), which are both free apps you can download on your phone.

5. Other than traveling, what do you like to do in your free time?

Most of the things I like to do go hand in hand with traveling. I love trying new food, taking walks, exploring new areas, and trying new experiences. Lately, I’ve also been enjoying sound baths, hot yoga, and watching the sunrise/sunset!
