Based in Philadelphia, Senior Coordinator Olivia England supports the Association Solutions team at MCI USA, working across a diverse portfolio of clients that includes SWS, NYWICI, CLEO and NARPM. Before joining MCI USA in March 2024, Olivia says she didn’t know much about the association space, but she found her footing quickly, moving from working with a single client to managing multiple clients and discovering that the variety was exactly what she was looking for. Today, her work shifts based on what each client needs, spanning education, membership, programming, events and more. Read on to learn what she’s discovered about association management, the inbox habit that keeps her organized and the advice that’s shaped how she approaches her work.
1. Association management covers a wide range of functions: membership, events, advocacy. What’s your favorite part and why?
Events have been a really fun way to connect with co-workers and clients. I’m always impressed by the amount of work and collaboration that goes into planning an event, and seeing it all come together is so cool.
2. What organization or productivity hacks do you live by?
A zero inbox! I’ve always used this method for the shared inboxes I manage, but it changed the game when I first implemented it into my own inbox. Being able to clearly see what still needs my attention helps me stay more organized and focused. It’s also very satisfying to see an empty inbox and everything filed away. I also can’t forget my daily handwritten to-do lists.
3. What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
I’m really proud of my consistent growth in my professional career so far. I feel like I’m constantly learning, taking on new challenges and expanding my skill set. It’s super gratifying!
4. What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?
I love listening to music from all different genres and going to concerts and festivals. Some of my favorite artists I’ve seen live in the last few years are Noah Kahan, Ethel Cain, The Story So Far and Gracie Abrams.
5. What’s the most useful feedback you’ve received so far in your career?
To speak up. My managers at MCI have done a great job of encouraging me to voice my thoughts on what’s working, what isn’t, and where processes and roles can be improved. It’s easy for me to keep my head down and do the work, but I’ve learned that real improvement comes from thinking critically and coming up with creative solutions. Having the support and encouragement to share my perspective is something that will stay with me throughout my career.
