Observance Spotlight:
National Wellness Month — Rethinking Wellness
This month, instead of adding more “shoulds” to our routines, we’re focusing on what to release. Burnout isn’t solved by doing more, it’s solved by working and living more sustainably. Wellness is about creating systems that help us perform at our best without depletion.
The reality of burnout
Burnout doesn’t always look like exhaustion, it can show up as:
• Feeling constantly “on” but not productive
• Losing motivation for work you used to enjoy
• Difficulty disconnecting after hours
• Decision fatigue or mental fog
New mindset: Burnout isn’t a personal failure, it’s often a systems issue, and small changes can create real relief
Ways to engage: Small shifts that actually reduce burnout
Work with your energy, not against it
• Identify your peak focus window (morning, mid-day, etc.)
• Schedule deep work before meetings when possible
Protect your calendar
• Block focus time (even 30 min) as non-negotiable
• Add 5–10 minute buffers between meetings to reset
Practice “soft stops”
• End your day with a defined “shutdown ritual” (review tomorrow, close tabs, log off intentionally)
Normalize Boundaries
• It’s okay to say: “I can take that on next week” or “I need more time to do this well”
Quick Challenge: Burnout Reset
Choose one burnout reduction habit to test for five days:
• Block one hour of uninterrupted focus time
• End your day at the same time (no “last email”)
• Decline or shorten one unnecessary meeting
• Take a real lunch break away from your desk
Then ask: Did this make my work feel lighter?
